Ofcom: New Non-Geo service charge prices

New Service Charge price points for Non-Geographic Numbers

As part of Advertising Standards, all Non-Geographic Numbers will now have the relevant service charge displayed next to the number. This way, you will now know upfront what the cost of the call will be!

In July 2016, Ofcom have now introduced a further 20 service charge price points for UK Non-Geographic Numbers, building on the 80 service charge price points introduced under the NGCS (UK Calling) reforms in July 2015.

This is all great news, but what does it mean?

Since last year, non-geographic calls, starting with 084, 087, 09 or 118 were charged to the customer making the call. This was done as a service charge, which is set by the terminating network, plus an access charge set by the callers telecoms provider. These 20 new service charge price points are predominantly aimed at higher priced services, introducing price points from 18p per minute, up to £15.98 per call + £7.99 per minute.
