How long can my O2 contract be used outside UK for?




This is a common question, asked by many. As the new EU regulations come in that allow you to use your UK allowance of minutes, text and data within Europe, more and more businesses are using these connections for staff that travel frequently around Europe. However, networks have set up rules and conditions that state the can only be sued for a set amoutn of time, before the user has to return back to the UK. With Vodafone and O2, both have this setup that a user can only take advantege of the new EU regualtions at a few weeks at a time. 

If the length of period that the user is away for does not seem to be holiday related, the network will contact the account holder and warn them of the situation. This could lead to the client being charged for the usage abroad.

With O2 and their terms and conditions, they state;

"You may use our services in our Europe Zone for periodic travel only, like holidays or short breaks. If you're not genuinely using our services for periodic travel we may have to charge you for, or suspend you from, using our services in our Europe Zone.What to avoid: Using our services for the first time outside of the UK or using our services within our Europe Zone for prolonged periods which don't follow reasonable business holiday or travel patterns and behaviour. If you use our services in our Europe Zone for 60 or more days in any four month period this is likely to be deemed to be an unfair use of our services and you will be in breach of this Fair Usage Policy".

If you are planning to use your handset abroad for a long period, maybe travelling between countries before going back to the UK, it is advisable to contact the network or your account manager to ensure this will be accepted.

It looks like, as the network open their roaming allowances they have tightend their reigns on what we can do!
