Are curved screens a mistake?

As many of you are aware, the leading manufacturers are starting to bring out more and more smartphones with screens bending around to the edges of devices. Samsung is doing very well with their latest edition, the S8. However, are all the sales solely related to the screen itself or the fact that this is the most powerful Samsung handset currently available?

The reason this is questioned is due to the latest results of a poll carried out by GSMarena, an amazing site that gives you full details on all devices out there.

More people prefer flat screens!

THe results show that users prefer a screen that is flat and not curved. Surprising news, as all manufacturers are not investing millions in this technology with Sony soon to release their flagshipp handset with a curved screen. Their XA1 with curved glass has already hit the shops.

As you can see, over 40% of users prefer the flat screen. Many users report that this is due to screen protectors. A lot of users with handsets, such with the Sony XA1 have found that the edge of the screens lose their responsiveness from the plastic protector and so has a negative impact on the screen and touch response.

Many also believe the build quality and ability to withstand a bounce with a concrete floor is reduced when you start looking at curved screens.

What are your views on this?

With just 29.4% preferring curved screen and even less with 21.4% liking the glass to be curved, it seems that the trend is declining. Do you agree with this?
