Vodafone: Data charges outside the Traveller zones
We all are looking to keep our roaming costs low when we have to inevitable use our devices while outside of the UK. With most business accounts, there are now plans set in place to help keeps these costs down. With O2, they offer the O2 Travel and with Vodafone, we have the EU and WW Traveller bolt-ons.
What are these bolt-ons that help keep costs down?
With Vodafone Worldwide Traveller you can also take your UK allowance abroad with you. If you’re a Pay monthly customer or on certain business plans, you can take your UK minutes, texts and data with you anywhere in our WorldTraveller Zone.
It’ll cost just £5 (Ex VAT) extra a day (midnight to midnight in the capital city of the country you’re visiting) whether you’re using your phone, tablet, dongle or Mobile Wi-Fi device.
But, what are the costs for the countries not found within these zones?
We look to Vodafone to give us an example of what these charges can be. Firstly, here is a map of countries included within their EU and Worldwide zones;
Both maps are based on Vodafones current report, as of December 2016.
And here is the map for countries included within the Worldwide map;
So what are the charges for places where these bolt-ons do not cover?
Well, there is one more trick up Vodafones sleeve. Yes, you will now be charged for calls and text, but your data can still be saved! This is via the networks 3rd bolt-on called the "Rest of World Data Traveller".
It is not a major amount of data. However, if you find yourself in a country, such as Tanzania, then charges can sky rocket! For £5, you will be able to use your data, albeit lightly! to access your vital emails.
What are the charges after you have used up your 25mb?
This is where it will really sting! The network will charge the below amounts when you pass the 25mb marker!
- £5.00 for the first 25MB
- £3.00/MB for the next 5MB
- After hitting 30MB the charges are £15.00 every 5MB.
Although the network has great bolt-ons to help reduce your roaming charges, it is vital that you keep an eye on which countries are covered within these plans. To check, you can go to the link below on Vodafones website.
Hope this helps!
